Lesson 8 – Campo Grande: The Capital of Mato Grosso do Sul

Campo Grande, the capital of Mato Grosso do Sul, is located in the heart of Brazil and offers a variety of attractions that capture the culture of the region.

Natural and Cultural Attractions:

Indigenous Nations Park: One of the main tourist spots in the city, the Indigenous Nations Park is an expansive green area that provides leisure and a connection to nature. With walking trails, lagoons, and picnic areas, the park is ideal for outdoor activities and offers a tranquil environment in the urban centre.

José Octávio Guizzo Cultural Centre: This venue hosts a wide range of events, exhibitions, and artistic activities. Located in the city centre, the José Octávio Guizzo Cultural Centre is an important meeting point for art lovers.

Museum of Contemporary Art (MARCO): MARCO is a significant centre for contemporary art in the state. With an extensive permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, the museum provides an in-depth look at both local and national artistic scenes.

Central Market: The Central Market of Campo Grande is another popular gathering place, offering a variety of local products, crafts, and typical regional items.

Vespasiano Martins Park: This park is known for its recreational areas, including sports courts and playgrounds, as well as walking trails. It is a popular location for outdoor activities and community events.

Orla Morena: The Orla Morena is a revitalised area along the Anhanduí River that offers leisure spaces and outdoor events. With beautiful views of the river and areas for walking and recreational activities, it’s an excellent place to enjoy the city’s natural surroundings.

São José Church: São José Church is an important historical and architectural landmark in Campo Grande. With its impressive construction and classic architecture, it holds great cultural and religious significance.

Campo Grande also stands out for its educational institutions, such as the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), which contributes to the city’s academic environment.
