Pernambuco: How to Get There

Airports – Recife/Guararapes International Airport, known as Gilberto Freyre, is located in the Greater Recife area, just 11 km from the city center. It’s about a 20-minute drive or taxi ride away, but public transportation is also available, available from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and takes approximately 40 minutes.

Guararapes International Airport in Recife offers direct flights to major national capitals, as well as international flights. In addition to Recife Airport, the cities of Caruaru, in the Agreste region, and Petrolina, in the Sertão region, have airports equipped for domestic flights.

It’s difficult to define the best time to visit the state, but always keep in mind that summer—December to February—is peak season for the domestic market, so fares are higher.
