Ecotourism and Water and Adventure Sports
Rio de Janeiro is a city that offers an impressive diversity of outdoor activities, combining ecotourism with water and adventure sports. Here are some that stand out in the marvelous city.
Water Sports
Surfing and Windsurfing: The city is a true paradise for surf and windsurf lovers, thanks to its favourable natural conditions. The beaches of Barra da Tijuca and Recreio are famous for their consistent waves, attracting surfers of all levels. Recreio Beach is ideal for beginner surfers, while Barra da Tijuca attracts professionals.
Meanwhile, São Conrado Beach and Pepino Beach are privileged spots for kitesurfing and windsurfing, offering favourable winds and stunning scenery. Both with safety and structure for beginners, such as schools and demarcated areas.
Sailing: Rio is an ideal place for sailing. There are schools where sailboats can be rented, such as at Marapendi Lagoon in Barra da Tijuca, and also sailing tours around Guanabara Bay to enjoy breathtaking panoramas.
Golf: Although not as popular as other sports in Rio, golf finds its space at the Olympic Golf Course, built for the 2016 Olympic Games. There is also the Itanhangá Golf Club, both providing a unique experience, combining sport with the natural beauty of the surroundings.
Beach Sports
Beach Volleyball, Beach Tennis and Footvolley: These sports are ubiquitous on any beach in Rio, with Copacabana and Ipanema being the main stages. Beach volleyball is particularly popular, with courts always busy with amateurs and professionals alike. Beach tennis and footvolley also attract many enthusiasts, making the beaches true centres of sports activity. A curious fact: footvolley was created in the 60s by Copacabana Beach goers and mixes the two most practiced sports in Brazil, football and volleyball.
Adventure Sports
Hang Gliding and Paragliding at Pedra da Gávea
The adventure begins with takeoff from Pedra Bonita, neighbouring Pedra da Gávea, atop Tijuca National Park. After a brief run with the instructor, the passenger gently takes flight and soars over spectacular Rio landscapes: mountains, forest, beaches, and even the Christ the Redeemer statue in the distance.
The flight lasts around 10 to 15 minutes and concludes with a smooth landing at Praia do Pepino, in São Conrado. It is an exhilarating experience, perfect for clients seeking adrenaline and unforgettable views of the Marvelous City.
